Conjunctival Reconstruction Introduction

Conjunctival Reconstruction is an ophthalmic procedure performed to restore damaged or missing conjunctival tissue that covers the white part of the eye and inner eyelids. The surgery helps rebuild the ocular surface and restore comfortable eyelid and eye movement. It may involve direct closure, tissue grafting, or biological membranes depending on the size and location of the defect.

Precision Restoration of the Ocular Surface and Conjunctival Tissue

This procedure is performed under local or general anesthesia depending on the extent of the conjunctival defect and the patient’s clinical requirements. The eye and surrounding area are prepared with antiseptic solutions and covered using sterile Nivda Ophthalmic Drapes to maintain a clean and controlled surgical field. The surgeon first removes unhealthy scar tissue or abnormal tissue and carefully evaluates the remaining healthy conjunctiva. Small defects may be closed directly, while larger defects can require a conjunctival autograft, amniotic membrane, or other suitable tissue graft. Fine ophthalmic instruments and microsurgical sutures are used to position and secure the graft while preserving normal eye movement and ocular surface function. After confirming stable tissue placement and wound closure, sterile ophthalmic disposables are used to protect the eye and support postoperative healing.
