Intracapsular Cataract Extraction (ICCE) Introduction:

Intracapsular Cataract Extraction (ICCE) is a cataract surgery in which the entire natural lens and its surrounding capsule are removed from the eye. This procedure was widely used before the development of modern cataract surgical techniques. It is now performed only in selected cases where other cataract procedures may not be suitable. 

Complete Lens Extraction Through a Conventional Ophthalmic Approach

This procedure is performed under local or regional anesthesia to maintain patient comfort during surgery. The eye and surrounding facial area are prepared with antiseptic solutions and covered using sterile Nivda Ophthalmic Drapes to establish a contamination-free surgical field. A larger surgical incision is created to provide access for removal of the entire lens and capsule as a single unit. Specialized ophthalmic instruments are used to carefully extract the lens while minimizing trauma to surrounding eye structures. Visual rehabilitation is achieved through implantation of an intraocular lens or alternative optical correction methods based on the patient’s condition. The surgical site is protected with sterile dressings and disposable barriers to support healing and maintain infection control.
