Scleral Buckling Surgery Introduction:

Scleral Buckling Surgery is an ophthalmic procedure performed to repair a detached retina by supporting the outer wall of the eye. A flexible silicone band is placed around the sclera to gently push it toward the detached retina. This helps the retina reattach and restores its normal position for proper healing.

External Retinal Support for Long-Term Retinal Reattachment

This procedure is performed under local or general anesthesia depending on the patient’s condition and the complexity of the retinal detachment. The eye and surrounding area are prepared with antiseptic solutions and covered using sterile Nivda Ophthalmic Drapes to establish a contamination-free surgical field. The surgeon carefully exposes the sclera and identifies the retinal tear using specialized ophthalmic visualization techniques. A silicone buckle or sponge is sutured onto the sclera to create gentle inward pressure, allowing the detached retina to reattach to the underlying tissue. Cryotherapy or laser photocoagulation may be performed to seal the retinal tear and strengthen retinal attachment.
